Demolished

Marico House, between Arlington Avenue and Regents Canal, Islington, London, Benson & Forsyth, 1980

The appalling decision by Islington Council to allow demolition of this fascinating building, speaks volumes about the importance of our continued work. Completed in 1980, the house combined residential and semi-industrial accommodation and was built partly in the shells of the cottages which had previously occupied the site. Highly detailed, with an impressive range of materials which reflected both the domestic and industrial demands of the brief, the house was a very fine example of how creative architects could tackle the issues surrounding urban regeneration. This is a tragic loss.
