Varndean School, Brighton, East Sussex, G M Simpson, 1931

English Heritage felt that this Neo-Georgian School was not of sufficient interest for listing, hindered by replacement windows. It is threatened with demolition and redevelopment as a ‘School for the Future’. C20 has supported the Brighton Society in pressurising the local authority to preserve this well-designed building, which makes a stunning contribution to views from the nearby park.
