Listed with almost unbelievable speed by EH and DCMS. This fine church was under threat when EH were asked to assess it, (the Society supported a request by local residents). Currently closed, we are extremely pleased that EH acted swiftly to list the building. In doing so, they gave us the first post-war listing of 2008.
In December 2007 C20 supported Chris Moxey’s application to list the re-discovered building (see C20 Magazine, Spring 2008). We are delighted that following our, and English Heritage’s, recommendations, the DCMS has listed the building at II*, reflecting its intact plan, exterior and range of internal fittings. The single-storey house design and semi-circular glazed stair are unique in Connell, Ward and Lucas’s portfolio. This modestly-scaled house is now protected in a county where extensions or redevelopment to prime sites are all too common.
