Hackney Hike

A joint event with the Hackney Society, this walk, led by Suzanne Waters, will focus on Hackney’s post-war housing. We will start by looking at the Woodberry Down Estate, one of London County Council s largest post-war housing developments—including a visit to the primary school and health centre that have recently been listed by English Heritage. Later on we will see the well regarded Somerford Estate by Frederick Gibberd, some private housing from the 1990s and we will also visit two churches—St Paul, Stoke Newington by Cachemaille Day and St Barnabas by Sir Charles Reilly.
