The English Semi Detached House by Finn Jensen—an illustrated talk

Finn Jensen, the author of the 2007 book The English Semi Detached House, will give an illustrated talk tracing “...the phenomenal rise and subsequent fall of the speculatively-built semi, from the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods to the 1920s, 1930s and beyond.” (See book review on p19 of the magazine.) This promises to be a fascinating look at a house type that is maligned by purists but a type in which many of us live. A significant proportion of Finn’s research is centred on the North West so you will recognise many of the examples both in the book and in the talk. Copies of the book will be available for sale on the night.
