Sussex by the Sea
Saturday 14 June, 10.00am
This coach tour, designed by Elain Harwood and Mark Price in anticipation of summer sunshine, will concentrate on buildings and monuments along the Sussex coast between Worthing and Chichester (start and finish at Worthing Station). The visit will include Sea Lane House, Angmering (1935-6), the only surviving work in England by Marcel Breuer, designed during his brief partnership with FRS Yorke; and Severels, a magical house and grounds of 1978-80 by Walter Greaves, one of Peter Moro’s assistants on the Royal Festival Hall. We also expect to visit the Cass Sculpture Foundation at Goodwood, Elisabeth Frink’s heads at Worthing, recently listed at the Society’s behest, curious concrete towers at Wappingthorn, and other treats and surprises. Lunch, included in the trip, will be at the Picturedrome, Bognor Regis, a cinema of c.1919 converted from a public hall of 1885. Tea also included. The tour will be a variant of that in 2000, and will hopefully be as fun!
Meet: Worthing Station, time to be confirmed but probably 10.00am
Cost: Members only, £47 (to include £10 admission to Goodwood, lunch and tea)
