Listings report, Winter 2002
The following buildings have been
added to the Statutory List by the DCMS:
None to report
We have supported the following buildings
for inclusion in the Statutory List:
Littlewoods
Pools Headquarters, Liverpool, Gerald de Coursey Fraser,
1938
A real landmark building for Liverpool in the art-deco
style, which is threatened by possible demolition.
The following buildings have been
turned down for listing by the DCMS:
Hatchet
Wood Farm, Skirmett, Bucks, Garnett, Cloughley, Blakemore
and Associates 1967-8
Turned down as it failed to meet the tough criteria
for post-war listing. It was cited as a simple house
in terms of finishes and fixtures and as some interiors
had been altered it was deemed unlistable. Unfortunately
the bulldozers will move in once planning permission
for a new development is granted.
Cole Bros Department Store,
Sheffield, Yorke, Rosenberg and Mardall, 1964
Put in for listing in October but the building had been
granted a Certificate of Immunity in September. Not
considered to be of a high enough standard to list.
The building will be demolished to make way for Sheffields
new retail quarter.
Applications supported by the Society
for listing and turned down:
Borthwick
Wharf, Deptford, London, Sir Edwin Cooper, 1934
A rare example of an industrial building by the architect,
it was not considered to possess enough finesse to be
listed.
