Have you considered remembering The
Twentieth Century Society in your will? Legacy gifts
to the Society can make an enormous difference to what
we can achieve. As a small organisation with very low
overheads, a contribution which would seem tiny to a
larger charity can make all the difference for us and
enable us to undertake projects which we would be unable
to initiate otherwise.
There are many topics we would like
to be able to address though conferences, books and
articles, but we lack the resources to make all of these
happen. Legacy funding can be put towards publishing
our journal (allowing more frequent issues on key topics
with more illustrations including colour ones), or it
can strengthen our casework by allowing caseworkers
to travel more extensively and cover more cases with
the depth they deserve. It could also sponsor a trip
or event, or allow a student to participate in an activity
relevant to our work and their studies.
There are two main types of legacy
that you can give. You can either leave a specific sum
or you can leave the balance of your estate once all
other gifts and debts have been dealt with. The only
problem with leaving a specific sum is that inflation
can mean that what was initially a generous amount ends
up being worth a lot less in real terms and being a
much smaller percentage of your assets than you envisagedit
is therefore a good idea to update your will regularly.
It is most helpful if your gift can
be used at the discretion of the Trustees for whatever
will be most beneficial to the objectives of the Society
at the time we receive it, but we do appreciate that
you might prefer to specific a particular type of project.
If so, or if you would like to discuss how you would
like a legacy contribution to be acknowledged, please
contact the Director or Chair of the Society.
We suggest the following wording for
inclusion in your will, if you are able to consider
helping us in this way.

(enter the amount in figures) for the general purposes
of the Society, and I declare that the receipt of the
