Commissioned by the Redditch Development Corporation. Unveiled on 19 April 1983 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and Sir William Rees-Mogg, then Chairman of the Arts’ Council. Paolozzi’s mosaic series depicting the history of the local industries predates his better-known Tottenham Court Road underground station work. Kingfisher are immensely proud of the murals and have devoted a page of their website to their history – it can be found here. Each of the 12 panels measures 21ft by 10ft.
